Indian benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty 50 are likely to open on a flat to positive note on September 17, tracking cues from GIFT Nifty trading near 25,492.50, a short while ago this morning.

Indian markets climbed to fresh all-time high and snapped a three-day losing streak on September 16, with Nifty finishing near 25,400 led by bank, metal, and energy names.

At close, the Sensex was up 97.84 points or 0.12 percent at 82,988.78, and the Nifty was up 27.25 points or 0.11 percent at 25,383.75.

The GIFT Nifty is trading marginally higher, indicating a flat to positive start for the day. Nifty futures were trading at 25,492.50 at 07:00 am IST.

The S&P 500 eked out a slight gain in a subdued session while the Nasdaq fell on Monday, weighed down by a drop in technology stocks as investors assessed the likelihood of an upsized rate cut from the U.S. Federal Reserve this week.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 228.30 points, or 0.55%, to 41,622.08, the S&P 500 gained 7.07 points, or 0.13%, to 5,633.09 and the Nasdaq Composite lost 91.85 points, or 0.52%, to 17,592.13.

US Bond Yield (Up)

The US 10-year Treasury yields rose 21 bps at 3.62 percent and US 2-year bond yield added 18 bps to 3.55 percent, in the early trade on Tuesday.

Dollar Index (Flat)

The dollar traded near its lowest levels of the year on Tuesday, on the eve of the expected the start to a U.S. easing cycle that markets are betting may begin with an outsized rate cut.

Asian currencies (Gain)

Among Asian currencies, except South Korean Won and Thai Baht all other were trading higher against the US dollar in the early trade on Tuesday.
