D-Street Buzz: IT, pharma stocks gain led by Tech Mahindra, Sun Pharma; DHFL jumps 5%

The breadth of the market favoured the advances with 1016 stocks advancing and 626declining while 414 remained unchanged. On the BSE, 1284 stocks advanced, 849 declined and 121 remained unchanged.

The Indian benchmark indices have managed to regain some lost ground in this afternoon session but is still trading in the red weighed down by state election results and sudden resignation of RBI Governor Urjit Patel.  The Nifty50 shed 22 points, trading at 10,465 while the Sensex was down 88 points and is trading at 34,870.

Bank Nifty is down half a percent dragged by HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank and IndusInd Bank followed by Kotak Mahindra Bank. However, banking names like YES Bank, Axis Bank, PNB and State Bank of India were trading in the green.

Nifty Energy is also trading in the red with loses from BPCL, HPCL, IOC and Reliance Industries.

Nifty Pharma was up close to 2 percent led by Sun Pharma and Glenmark Pharma which jumped 3-4 percent followed by Piramal Enterprises, Lupin, Dr Reddy's Labs and Cadila Healthcare.

IT stocks were also buzzing with gains from Infibeam Avenue, Tech Mahindra, Wipro, Mindtree, HCL Tech and TCS.

From the BSE midcap space, the top gainers included DHFL which jumped 5 percent followed by Colgate Palmolive and Ajanta Pharma while the top losers were Sun TV, Godrej Properties and Oberoi Realty.

The top BSE smallcap gainers included Moschip Semiconductor which zoomed 10 percent followed by IOL Chemicals while the top losers were Punj Lloyd and 8K Miles Software.

The top gainer from NSE include YES Bank, Sun Pharma, Axis Bank, Asian Paints and HCL Tech while the top losers included HPCL, IOC, BPCL, Adani Ports and ICICI Bank.

The most active stocks were Reliance Industries, Axis Bank, ICICI Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank and YES Bank.

Dr Reddy's Labs have hit new 52-week high on NSE in this afternoon session.

218 stocks have hit new 52-week low including names like Ajmera Realty, Bajaj Corp, Bharat Heavy Electricals, Cipla, Deepak Fertilizers and Petrochemicals, Hindustan Copper, Housing & Urban Development Corporation, Indiabulls Real Estate, Vodafone Idea, IL&FS Transportation Networks, The Jammu & Kashmir Bank, Jain Irrigation Systems, JK Tyre & Industries, Mahindra & Mahindra, Manpasand Beverages, NBCC, NTPC, NMDC, ONGC, Oil India, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries, SAIL, Tata Global Beverages, Tata Motors and Tata Steel among others.
