-- One person was killed in a rain-induced landslide in Assam even as the flood situation in the state deteriorated on Saturday with downpours inundating new areas in 10 districts and affecting over 37,000 people, an official bulletin said.
-- According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) report, Muktar Ali was killed in a landslide in the Dhirenpara area of Kamrup Metropolitan district.
-- Local officials said that Ali was killed when the boundary wall of a residential complex collapsed and fell on his residence, with the debris crushing him to death.

Teachers in England to strike for two more days in July
Teachers in England will strike on July 5 and July 7, the National Education Union (NEU) said on Saturday, staging further industrial action over a pay and funding dispute with the government. The new dates announced by Britain's largest education union come on top of at least six days of walk-outs by teachers in England from February to May. Teachers rejected a government pay offer for an average rise of 4.5% plus a 1,000 pound one-off payment in April. The union is now holding another ballot on more strikes for this Autumn.

Mukherjee Nagar fire: Statements of students, staffers of coaching institutes recorded
Statements of more than 30 students and staff members of coaching institutes have been recorded in connection with the fire at a building in northwest Delhi's Mukherjee Nagar area housing coaching centres, police said.
According to them, the students claimed that new batches had started recently and they had no idea about the fire-fighting equipment in the building.
The fire at Bhandari House in Mukherjee Nagar's Batra Complex on Thursday jeopardised the lives of scores of students taking coaching classes there, raising concerns about the fire safety standards at buildings in the thickly populated area where there are coaching centres in just about every nook and corner.

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has decided to revise the process for determining ranks of aspirants having an identical NEET score, prioritising marks obtained in Physics, followed by Chemistry and Biology. This is unlike the current practice of giving priority to marks obtained in Biology, followed by Chemistry and then Physics. According to the Graduate Medical Education Regulations-2023 issued recently, if the subject marks do not resolve the tie, then draw of lots using computers will be conducted to draw the merit list. There would be no human intervention in the draw of lots.

At least 41 killed in rebel attack on Ugandan school near Congo border
Ugandan authorities recovered the bodies of 41 people, including 38 students, following an attack by suspected rebels on secondary school near the border with Congo, the local mayor said Saturday. The victims included the students, one guard and two members of the local community who were killed outside the school, Mpondwe-Lhubiriha Mayor Selevest Mapoze told The Associated Press. An unknown number of people were abducted by the rebels, who fled across the porous border into Congo after the raid on Friday night.
ED files charge sheet against bookie Anil Jaisinghani in cricket betting-linked money laundering case
A charge sheet has been filed against alleged cricket bookie Anil Jaisinghani in a money laundering investigation linked to a 2015 IPL betting case, the Enforcement Directorate said on Saturday. Jaisinghani was arrested by the federal agency in April. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) said he was "evading" summons and not cooperating in the investigation after a special Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court issued a non-bailable warrant against him in 2015.
Balasore train accident toll mounts to 291
The death toll in the Balasore train accident mounted to 291 after a passenger from Bihar succumbed to his injuries at SCB Medical College Hospital here on Saturday, officials said.The passenger was identified as Sahil Mansur (32) of Roshanpur in Bhagalpur district of Bihar. He was undergoing treatment at the ICU of trauma care, hospital sources said, adding that the patient was also suffering from a kidney-related ailment. He was also under dialysis, they said. SCB Medical College Hospital Superintendent Dr Sudhansu Sekhar Mishra said the patient died due to cardiac arrest. He had multiple injuries both internal and external and also had renal issues.
Manipur violence: Mizoram govt urges Centre to provide relief fund for displaced people
The Mizoram government on Friday urged the Centre to expedite the release of funds to provide relief to over 11,000 displaced people from violence-hit Manipur, an official statement said. The state government has sought Rs 10 crore as immediate relief for those who are currently staying at shelters in different parts of Mizoram since ethnic clashes broke out in the neighbouring state on May 3.During the day, state Tourism Minister Robert Romawia Royte called on Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla in Delhi and urged him to sanction the fund at the earliest, the statement said. Bhalla, on his part, told Royte that the Centre will soon sanction the relief package, it said.
More than 2,400 tourists stranded in North Sikkim due to inclement weather
More than 2,400 tourists, including 60 college students were stranded in Lachen and Lachung area of North Sikkim district due to road blockades following incessant rainfall since the last three days, officials said on Saturday. The district administration has pressed into service 19 buses and 70 smaller vehicles to evacuate the 2,464 stranded tourists, officials said. As of now, three buses and two other vehicles carrying 123 tourists have left for the state capital Gangtok, they said.
