Venkataraman will head the logistics vertical Ekart, the marketplace and the retail vertical
Walmart-run Flipkart has shuffled its senior leadership and appointed Sriram Venkataraman as its chief operating officer (COO). Venkataraman took this additional responsibility after serving as the e-commerce giant's chief financial officer.
The role of COO has reportedly been vacant for over a year. Flipkart's previous COO Nitin Seth resigned in mid-2017 citing personal reasons.
Flipkart CEO Kalyan Krishnamurthy wrote to employees announcing the appointment of Venkataraman, saying that this leadership change will affect broad groups of the company, including marketing, operations, engineering and product, reported Mint.
Venkataraman will head the logistics vertical Ekart, the marketplace and the retail vertical.
An alumnus of the Institute of Technology, Chennai and Indian Business School, Hyderabad, Venkataraman started his career with Hindustan Unilever, where he worked for over 11 years in finance and treasury department.
He then came on board as the CFO of Flipkart, three years ago. This appointment comes after the hasty exit of co-founder Binny Bansal and leadership reshuffling that the company is going through.
New appointments and exits
In the email, Krishnamurthy also announced that Amar Nagaram of Flipkart would be made chief of engineering at Myntra, under CEO Ananth Narayan.
Senior members of Flipkart, Ravi Garikipati and Shoumyan Biswas, will exit the company soon, Krishnamurthy said in the mail. "Ravi G played a pivotal role in starting up our ads business, provided significant leadership for engineering and technology organisations and established a solid platform in fintech for us to drive growth. Shoumyan has played a significant role in establishing Flipkart as one of the foremost Indian brands," the mail read. The company's senior management was first rejigged on December 7, when large appliances head Sandeep Karwa was reportedly moved to another department, replaced by senior director Hari Kumar. There were reports that senior official Aditya Soni replaced Ayyappan R to head the smartphones business of Flipkart, among other personnel changes.
