Core sector growth slows in December 2017 to 7.1 percent. In an interview to CNBC-TV18, Madan Sabnavis, Chief Economist at Care Ratings shared his view and readings on the numbers.

“The numbers continue to be fairly volatile while we did see in the last four or five months there has been an upward trajectory in terms of overall growth, this particular number has come down in this month but if you look at the overall composition, certain segments which appear to be doing very well earlier have suddenly started moving downwards partly on account of base effect because cement has done very well because of negative growth last year, steel has done worse this time because of higher number last year. I think the entire industry is still trying to grapple with the issue of goods and services tax (GST) destocking and restocking. I think that is one of the factors which is making these numbers very volatile,” he said.
