The Planning Commission, chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, will meet on April 21 (Thursday) with growth and inflation as its centre of focus. Sources say the high-powered committee will discuss the approach paper on the 12th Five Year Plan (2012-13 to 2016-17).

The PM is likely to set the five-year GDP growth target at the meet. The Planning Commission pegs India average GDP at 9% in 2012-17. According to sources, Manmohan Singh may push for a target of 10% average annual growth in the 12th Five Year Plan.
However, that goal is based on optimistic assumptions, particularly on manufacturing.
