The Maharashtra government has cancelled nearly 300 tenders of irrigation projects worth Rs 6,000 crore due to pending investigation in the multi-crore irrigation scam.
Speaking to CNBC-TV18, Anil Jain, MD of Jain Irrigation Systems said that the company is not affected by the developments in Maharashtra irrigation projects.
Below is the verbatim transcript of Anil Jain's interview to Sonia Shenoy & Anuj Singhal.
Anuj: The market is concerned. Do you have any of the projects in the ones that the government has cancelled?
A: No, none of the projects. Our business is micro irrigation in most of Maharashtra, where we supply to farmers through our dealers. However, we as such do not deal with the government.
We do some large irrigation projects in other states. We have either completed most of them or are do well. So we have nothing to do with what has happened. Our business otherwise is doing well.
Sonia: You are not even supplying to any of these large projects, right?
A: No. These typical large irrigation projects are about building dams and canals. They do not involve water efficiency or water conservation etc. So we are not involved in just pure civil work of creating water storage or some water conveyance. Typically we are involved when you are doing water conveyance through pipes or you want to install drip irrigation on your farm. So we are not involved in these projects at all. This entire irrigation or cancellation, which is going on has nothing to do with Jain Irrigation.
Sonia: Do you know any of the companies who are involved and whose projects have been scrapped?
A: No, I would not know. A lot of contracting companies which are purely in contracting business but I may not know these names.
