Food services and facilities management major Sodexo on December 11 announced its tie-up with Zone Startups for a Foodtech Programme.

Under this initiative, Indian startups will closely connect with the local digital and innovation ecosystem to strengthen food offerings for Sodexo's clients and consumers.

The Foodtech Programme is in partnership with Zone Startups, which is a global brand of tech accelerators and early stage venture funds.

The first cohort of the accelerator programme under the partnership with Zone Startups in India will be dedicated to the identification of new technology and corporate food models, for which startups will be able to apply through dedicated Sodexo website.

Sodexo and Zone Startups will collaborate to identify, assess, test and validate relevant startups to coach and run pilots within Sodexo context.

The one-year program will bring new food experiences to Sodexo's corporate clients and consumers as a part of their food@work theme.

Overall, the partnership will help Sodexo India to closely work with local digital and innovative players in sources and accelerating new technologies. In return, they will get access to 11000 sites and one lakh merchants that Sodexo has in India.

The initiative will help extend Sodexo's Open Innovation Programme after it was successful in France. The company is extending the programme on to Asia Pacific countries-India and China.

Speaking about the tie up, Rishi Gour, Country President, Sodexo On-Site Services India, said: "By associating with innovative startups, we aim to transform not only perception of workplace cafeterias, but also the way we operate and serve consumers."

Gour also added that the urban food market will continue to offer the tremendous growth potential for Sodexo India and is at an inflection point with rapid digitalisation, evolving consumers and the entry of new players.

Founded in Marseille in 1996 by Pierre Bellon, Sodexo operates in 80 countries, servicing 100 million.

"This programme opens up collaborative avenues for startups working in emerging food services," said Ajay Ramasubramaniam, Director-India, Zone Startups India.

Established in Toronto in 2012, Zone Startups is a global brand of tech accelerators and early stage venture funds operated by Toronto based Ryerson Futures Inc. It has presence across Canada, India and Vietnam.

In India, Zone Startups has been operating since 2014 and has built a portfolio of more than 200 startups across multiple programmes.
