Security breach at ATM maker compromises 3.2 million debit cards

A security breach in ATM provider Hitachi, giving fraudsters access to personal bank information, will see lenders replacing as many as 3.2 million debt cards, reports The Economic Times.

A security breach in ATM provider Hitachi, giving fraudsters access to personal bank information, will see lenders replacing as many as 3.2 million debt cards, reports The Economic Times.

About more than half of these cards -- 2.6 million – which are reported to be under threat from this breach are said to be on the Visa and MasterCard platform. About 600,000 cards are on the RuPay platform.


The banks affected by this breach include State Bank of India, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, YES Bank and Axis Bank.


The Payments Council of India has ordered a forensic audit on Indian bank servers and systems to find out where the fraud orginanted from.

Several victims have reported unauthorised usage from locations in China.
