Relax the tax: Tamil Nadu government and theatre owners seek middle ground

It's been three months since the Tamil Nadu government imposed its infamous double-taxation on theatres in the state. At present, film audiences here pay 8 and 20 percent local body levies over and above existing GST rates for Tamil and other-language films respectively. While this has resulted in tax components going up to 48 percent per ticket, CNBC-TV18's Jude Sannith reported that industry-government talks are continuing, to find some common ground.
