Healthcare ecosystem in India will be significantly strengthened based on the public-private partnership (PPP) model, the apex body of healthcare providers, NATHEALTH, said on June 10.

PPP model has also been advocated by NITI Aayog to improve health services in the country against the backdrop of dismal performance of public hospitals at the district level, the healthcare federation said in a statement.

"We expect the government's initiative to promote PPP model to become a gamechanger and hope that the body to promote innovative PPP models as envisaged by Niti Aayog will be in place soon," NATHEALTH president Rahul Khosla said.

PPP mechanism could potentially be applied to a vast range of medical areas such as tertiary/secondary care, primary care, preventive systems, wellness, medical education, dialysis and the like as well as to provide wider and deeper coverage beyond urban India, he added.
