The Anand Mahindra-led automobile company has also requested Ford if it could use the American automobile giant's existing retail network in Mexico.
Automobile giants Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) and Ford have charted out plans to work together and develop new products in the field of electric vehicles, according to a report by CNBC-TV18.
Both companies have agreed to work together in four critical areas including harnessing the synergies of their sales networks, development of new products and technologies and working together in the field of electric vehicles.
The two companies will be working together on an electric sedan, which will be launched globally by M&M in late 2018.
The Anand Mahindra-led automobile company has also requested Ford if it could use the American automobile giant's existing retail network in Mexico. The companies are also thinking of combining their sales and retail outlets across tier-3 and tier-4 cities in India.
According to the report, the production teams of both M&M and Ford are currently exploring the possibility making 70 to 75 percent parts of cars manufactured by both companies common. This would aid in cutting costs. The two companies had in September announced that they intended to work together as part of a “strategic alliance, designed to leverage the benefits of Ford’s global reach and expertise and Mahindra’s scale in India and successful operating model”.
