Amid claims that he reduced his father to leading a hand-to-mouth life, Raymond honcho Gautam Singhania has said, "People who are not going to change are going to fall by the way side."

The junior Singhania seemed unperturbed by Vijaypat Singhania's claims that he was being driven out of the empire he handed over to his son. Gautam said that Raymond has in a way scripted a turned around in the past one year.

"I think people are now getting up and noticing that Raymond is a new avatar in the market," he told ET Now. The question of "change" rose as Gautam claimed to have been restructuring Raymond and preparing it for years to come. "If you are rigid like a tree you fall and break," he said.

The father-son duo are engaged in an legal tangle over the possession of a disputed duplex in the 36-story JK House on Malabar Hill in Mumbai.

The septuagenarian is broke and cannot even avail a car, a driver or rent of his alternative accommodation, senior advocate Dinyar Madon had said. Madon is representing Vijaypat along with firm Bachubhai Munim and Co in the property dispute case.

The senior Singhania, who handcrafted one of the largest Indian apparel brands, currently lives in a rented row house in the posh Grand Paradi society in south Mumbai.

Vijaypat had handed over to Gautam shares worth Rs 1,000 crore he held in Raymond along with the wealth, Madon told the court. Gautam is driving Vijaypat "out of everything" he said.

Justice Girish Kulkarni has said the matter should not have been dragged to court as it was a family dispute and could have been resolved among the concerned parties themselves.
