BSNL pegs initial tower biz revenues at Rs 940 crore: CMD

BSNL‘s Chairman and Managing Director Anupam Shrivastava told CNBC-TV18's Malvika Jain that the soon-to-be-formed tower business would be the second largest tower company in India with around 65000 towers.

The cabinet has gone ahead and approved the proposal to hive-off BSNL’s tower business into a separate subsidiary which could be valued at around Rs 20,000 crores.

BSNL’s Chairman and Managing Director Anupam Shrivastava told CNBC-TV18's Malvika Jain that the soon-to-be-formed tower business would be the second largest tower company in India with around 65000 towers.

The company would then like to monetise these towers by asking other operators to share the towers on a mutual sharing basis, said Srivastava. This will help the company unlock the value of towers for BSNL.

He said the state run telecom major is talking to 5 players including Airtel, Vodafone and Reliance Jio to forge intra-circle roaming agreements

When asked what stake BSNL would have in the new company, he said it is going to be a company within BSNL. “BSNL too will pay rent to the tower subsidiary,” he said. As per rough analysis the company will be worth Rs 20000 crore, he added.

He also added that the new company will be doing its on operation and maintenance with focus on sales and marketing. Thereby, in the first year of its formation profit is expected to be around Rs 940 crore and is  likely to go up to Rs 2000 crore in four-five years of operation, said Srivastava.
