Bata plans to open 150 stores overall this year in India; double ad-spends

The company would also look at doubling their ad spends from the current 1 percent of sales to around 2-2.5 percent, said Rajeev Gopalakrishnan, President, South Asia at Bata Emerging Markets.


Rajeev Gopalakrishnan, President, South Asia at Bata Emerging Markets is upbeat on the business outlook going forward and aims to open over 150 stores overall – 100 stores owned by the company and 50 franchise stores this year.Would look to open more and more stores into the tier 2 and tier 3 cities, said Gopalakrishnan in an interview to CNBC-TV18.Most of their brands are doing very well, Hush Puppies brand too has shown good traction and the company sold over 1 million pairs, he said adding that they would look at opening 20 Hush Puppies Stores year on year.He is also confident of maintaining gross margins through product mix. The gross margins in Q3 stood at 52.6%.The company would also look at doubling their ad spends from the current 1 percent of sales to around 2-2.5 percent, said Gopalakrishnan.The company saw a double-digit growth in Q3 and expect a similar trend in Q4 as well, he said because the demonetisation impact lasted only for two weeks post the news and then business recovered.
