Gamesa plans to raise local sourcing level to 85%

Wind turbine manufacturer Gamesa is planning to increase the local sourcing level of its products to 85 per cent from next year, a top official said today.

Wind turbine manufacturer Gamesa is planning to increase the local sourcing level of its products to 85 per cent from next year, a top official said today.


The Chennai-based manufacturer currently source about 70 per cent of materials locally, Gamesa India Chairman and Managing Director Ramesh Kymal said.
Gamesa India is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Spain-headquartered Gamesa Group.
"Currently, our indigenisation level is at 70 per cent.
By next third quarter we will be increasing it to 85 per cent" he told reporters here.
The company also planned to double its wind turbine installation in the country by next year.
"We are mainly looking into projects in Rajasthan, Karnataka.. Andhra Pradesh is also opening up (for wind power). It is another big market for us. Currently, we have about 500 MW of order book", he said.
The company which has been manufacturing one MW of wind turbine also manufactured small number of 2MW of turbines.
He said over the last two years, the company has made about 1,000 wind power installations with capacity of one MW each.
To a query, Kymal said 60 per cent of the projects the company had secured for next year comprises of wind power installation of 2MW each.
On Tamil Nadu Government's solar policy to promote solar energy, he said they were doing such projects in a "small way" under the corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative.
"We will mainly be into wind power (business)", he said to a query on whether the company was planning to foray into solar power.
On their overseas operations, Kymal said their South American business was doing well with majority of share being from "Brazil".
