Qatar Airways India plans likely to be on hold: Sources

Despite announcements by the airline's CEO earlier that Qatar Airways is eyeing the Indian market, sources tell CNBC TV18 that the Doha-based airline might not push for setting up a fully owned airline yet reports.

Sources say the airlines is likely to put its India plans on hold for now till they have further clarity from India government on FDI norms.

They have not yet approached the Indian government yet, say sources.

However, the airlines did not respond to queries from CNBC-TV18.

The company CEO in March had said the airline plans to set up a full-owned venture in India.

However, sources say domestic airlines opposed Qatar Airways’ proposal to set up a 100 percent owned airline in India. The domestic airlines raised concerns over the lack of reciprocity and demanded a level playing field.
