Make in India, ease of doing biz hits for Commerce Ministry

The Modi government’s Make in India mission has captured headlines in 2015. The Commerce Ministry worked behind the scenes to steer the campaign and pushed for further liberalization of the FDI regime. Linked to government’s efforts to draw in dollars, is its plans to improve ease of doing business. Here, the DIPP led by Amitabh Kant has put onus on states with the first state ranking. The biggest disappointment for Commerce Ministry, however, has been consistent fall in exports, which can largely be blamed on the weak global environment.
