FMCG, retail, logistics to gain most from GST rollout?

The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved the Constitution Amendment Bill on goods and services tax (GST), giving its nod to bring about long-pending indirect tax reforms.

India Inc has since long been demanding implementation of the GST to ensure shift from tax optimisation to operational efficiency, with which economy will get a major boost as the GST will subsume most of the indirect taxes like excise duty and service tax at the central level and VAT along with local levies on the states front.

Although the specifics need to be understood, the industry sees its rollout as a big milestone and a huge positive.

From the logistics space, companies such as Gati and Snowman Logistics are believed to be beneficiaries of the rollout. In addition, Shoppers Stop, Future Retail and Trent from the retail sector will benefit from the same.
