As far as 900 Mhz band of spectrum is concerned - Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata saw bidding above the reserve price.
The government has already mopped up over Rs 13,000 crore on Day 1 of 2G spectrum auctions and going forward there is an expectation that bidding will take place across circles tomorrow as well.
As far as 900 Mhz band of spectrum is concerned - Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata saw bidding above the reserve price. In Kolkata it was 38.5 percent higher than the reserve price, in Mumbai 44.3 percent higher than the reserve price and in Delhi also there was excess demand for 5 Mhz band of spectrum. Now whether this is because companies such as Bharti Airtel and Vodafone have to necessarily bid to win back spectrum to ensure that they continue their operations in the 900 Mhz band of spectrum or it is because of the entry of Reliance-Jio is something that will only become clear when the final results are out.
Clearly bidding is taking place above the reserve price in 900 Mhz band category.
For 1800 Mhz band of spectrum auction also there are as many as eight circles in which bidding took place above the reserve price, this includes Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, UP East, UP West, Gujarat, West Bengal and Jammu and Kashmir.
Earlier, telecom minister Kapil Sibal pointed out that it is going to be the underpenetrated areas that will see response from telecom companies and even though the press release from the government says that bidding is yet to pick up in all areas as far as 1800 Mhz band is concerned, there is also a hint from the government that all telecom companies are showing interest in 1800 Mhz band as well.
