Balaji Railroad Systems (BARSYL)– Habog Consultants JV is likely to prepare a Detailed Feasibility Report (DFR) for the extension of the Metro rail from Bommasandra in Bengaluru to Hosur in Tamil Nadu.
BARSYL-Habog emerged as the lowest bidder for preparing the DFR for the Hosur Metro. This will be South India's first inter-state Metro rail system.
Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) floated a tender on August 1 to conduct a feasibility study for extending Bengaluru Metro to Hosur in Tamil Nadu. Out of 11 bidders, BARSYL-Habog JV quoted the lowest at Rs 29.44 lakh.

The Bengaluru Metro's Yellow Line, connecting Bommasandra and RV Road in South Bengaluru, is expected to be operational by April 2024.

The proposed Bommasandra-Hosur Metro corridor spans 20.5 km, with 11.7 km in Karnataka and the remaining 8.8 km in Tamil Nadu.
The feasibility study will assess key factors, including the type of trains (Normal Metro/Metrolite/Metro Neo), estimated ridership, alignment, station locations, and construction costs.
Congress leader and Krishnagiri MP A Chellakumar has been advocating for the extension of Bengaluru Metro to Hosur. However, Karnataka is not keen to extend to extend from Bommasandra to Hosur after many industries relocated to Hosur and Krishnagiri in Tamil Nadu.

Chellakumar told Moneycontrol that pollution and traffic congestion will also be reduced with Metro connectivity. "It will benefit lakhs of lower and middle-class people traveling between two states for jobs, and their travel time will also be reduced."
"Industries are going to a particular state not because of the Metro. It is due to factors like concessions given to the industries, power availability, and low tariff. Industrialists set up an industry based on which state offers the maximum benefits." said Chellakumar.
He said both Karnataka and Tamil Nadu should jointly fund the project, which will benefit people from both states.
DK Shivakumar proposes Metro to Bidadi
Karnataka deputy CM and Bengaluru development minister DK Shivakumar, on November 10, proposed extending the Metro from Challaghatta to Bidadi, covering around 18 km.
Speaking at the newly constructed building of the Toyota Technical Training Institute (TTTI), Shivakumar told reporters that he has instructed BMRCL officials to prepare a detailed project report for the extension of Metro to Bidadi.
He highlighted the significant workforce of over 1 lakh people in Bidadi's industrial area.
Shivakumar also recently recommended renaming Ramanagara district as Bengaluru South. Challaghatta is the western terminal Metro station on the East-West corridor (Purple Line) of Namma Metro, operational since October 2023.
Shivakumar also said that the Bidadi Planning Authority will be renamed as the Greater Bengaluru Development Authority.
