As time ticked by and counting entered its last leg on December 3, the Congress looked more and more confident of a sweep in Telangana. "We are in the lead in Telangana," said Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in an interaction with the press.
As of 1pm, the Congress was far past the majority mark in the 119-member Assembly, leading in 65 seats.

In neighbouring Chhattisgarh, however, the Grand Old Party seems to be set for drubbing with the BJP taking a lead. "There's a variation happening in Chhattisgarh. There were calculations that we would win both in Chhattisgarh and Telangana," Siddaramaiah said.
In Madhya Pradesh, too, the BJP looks set for a triumph. "We thought that there would be a close fight in Madhya Pradesh. The complete result has not come yet, so let's wait and see," the veteran Congressman said.
The BJP took the lead over the Congress in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, chiefly on the back of its welfare schemes specially aimed at uplifting women.
Early in the day, senior Congress leader Renuka Chowdhury expressed her confidence in the collective win for the party in the state. "All workers, leaders, and voters are with the Congress in Telangana as well as in India," she said while interacting with reporters.
Shortly after noon, Telangana Congress president Revanth Reddy was seen celebrating with party workers in Hyderabad as he emerged victorious from the Kodangal constituency.
