Fine lines are often the first sign that your skin is starting to age, especially around the eyes and mouth. As you get older, the skin’s natural collagen production slows down, leading to less firmness and elasticity. This can cause the skin to sag and create wrinkles. Alongside, sun exposure and environmental factors also play a big role in the appearance of dark spots or uneven skin tone.

With time, your skin may feel drier and rougher, and under-eye bags or dark circles become more noticeable as the skin thins, says Dr Priti Thakor, Head of Medical Safety Sciences Restorative (India) and Digestive Health, APAC at Kenvue, which includes the renowned Neutrogena brand. She adds, “Though these signs are a natural part of aging, taking care of your skin can help manage and slow them down. Understanding these signs and addressing them proactively can significantly impact your skin’s health and appearance.”

Thakor suggests one should look out for these signs as you near your thirties.

Fine lines and wrinkles: Fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes and mouth are often the earliest signs of ageing. These typically start to appear due to sun exposure and genetic factors, often earlier in Indian skin. Dr Thakor advises using anti-aging products with retinol and hyaluronic acid, like Neutrogena's Visible Repair range, which helps visibly reduce these signs and repair skin damage in as little as a week.
