They say confidence begins from within. But it is also true that what you wear can influence how you feel. Personal style is more than just putting on clothes; it’s an unspoken language that expresses who you are, before you speak a word. With every shirt you button or shoe you slip on, you make a choice about how you show up in the world. And sometimes, that transformation starts right inside your closet.
Style is often mistaken for fashion, but it’s much more personal. Style is your visual introduction to the world, says Shilpi Bhambani, Image and Etiquette Coach and founder of ECLAH. “It reflects your personality, your energy, and your mindset. In a world where first impressions happen in seconds, what you wear becomes your calling card,” Bhambami says.
She adds, “When you walk into a room, you’re telling people who you are without speaking. A well-thought-out wardrobe doesn’t just help you look polished, it builds confidence from the outside in. Clothes that fit well, feel good, and reflect your identity make you feel ready for whatever your day throws at you; be it a big presentation, a first date, or just showing up for yourself.”

Style, Bhambani says, should never come at the cost of comfort. “Breathable fabrics, ease of movement, and cuts that feel good are non-negotiables. It’s also not about quantity, having fewer but more versatile pieces can actually make dressing easier and more enjoyable,” she says.
Follow these wardrobe tips, suggested by Bambhani, to build your confidence:
- Start with the basics: Build your wardrobe around classic pieces, like a good white shirt, jeans that fit just right, or a blazer that makes you feel put-together. You can throw that white shirt on with jeans for coffee or dress it up with trousers for work.
- Show some personality with accessories: Add a pop with fun earrings, a cool scarf, or shoes that stand out. Even a plain outfit can feel special with a bright bag or bold necklace.
- Make sure your clothes fit well: When your clothes actually fit your body, everything looks sharper and you feel better. That blazer that hugs your shoulders just right? Yes! That can be a game changer.
- Clear out the clutter: If you haven’t worn some pieces in ages or it they don’t feel like “you” anymore, let them go. Still holding onto dresses from five years ago that don’t fit? Time to thank it and move on.
- Dress for your actual life: Your clothes should work for how you live day to day; From office meetings to school runs or lounging at home. If you’re always on the go, comfy sneakers and stylish joggers might be your best friends.
- Comfort matters: You’ll feel the most confident when you’re not fidgeting or adjusting your clothes all day. Soft, breathable fabrics that move with you can still look great and feel amazing.
- Stick to colours that work for you: Having a few go-to shades makes getting dressed so much easier. If earthy tones suit your skin, focus on those, you’ll always look effortlessly pulled together.
- Go with your gut: If something makes you feel powerful, cool, or totally like yourself, wear it. That leather jacket that gives you main-character energy? Definitely a yes.
