Neem Karoli Baba, also called Maharaj-ji by his devotees, was a Himalayan saint who passed away in 1973. His teachings were simple, with an emphasis on “Sab Ek — All is One.” A devotee of Lord Hanuman, he encouraged his followers to love and serve fellow humans, be devoted to God, and stay truthful. Some of his quotes stand true to what he preached and must not be missed for the timeless wisdom they offer.
It’s maya that prevents us from the good: The material world as we perceive it is an illusion that distracts us from understanding the nature of existence. While God has given us five senses, they must be used for the greater good and for attaining God.
Trust the process and keep your heart open: Life is a journey, and it’s important to have faith in the circumstances we are put through. While the path may be uncertain, it is important to learn from our mistakes and remain open to experiences and outcomes.
Even if a person hurts you, give them love: Love trumps all ill feelings; hence, it’s better to be kind and compassionate despite the pain. He added, “The worst punishment is to throw someone out of your heart. You should love everyone as God, and love each other. If you cannot love each other, you cannot achieve your goal.”

Cleanse the mirror of your heart and you will see God: To experience the divine in its truest form, we must work on our inner selves. It requires us to get rid of our self-centeredness, vices, and material desires that prevent us from meeting God. A selfless life devoted to others and driven by love can help us gain clarity and realise the God within us.
Clarity is from within: True clarity comes from the mind, which requires removing worldly desires and focusing on self-introspection, intuition, and self-trust. Looking within helps you realise who you are, making you free from things that don’t serve any purpose.
For a sadhu to stay in one place means trouble: In life, it is important to remain detached and pure by being constantly in motion. He said, “A moving yogi and a moving river… impurities, sediments, and filth can never settle there. If I stay here, attachment will form.”
