The young generation is more open about their emotional well-being than past generations and are leaning heavily on technology to support it. From AI chatbots to mindfulness apps, digital solutions offer convenience, privacy, and instant support. But while tech can be a great starting point, experts caution that it’s not a complete substitute for human connection and professional care.

For Gen Z, growing up with smartphones and social media has made digital platforms a natural place to seek help. AI-powered apps offer features like mood tracking, self-assessment quizzes, guided meditation, and even chatbot therapy—all at the tap of a button, says Vidyut Lata Dhir, psychologist and professor at SPJIMR. “Gen Z appreciates the comfort, anonymity, and control that these platforms provide. These tools are especially appealing for those hesitant to reach out face-to-face or who live in areas with limited mental health services,” he adds.
