Lupus nephritis refers to a condition that is seen in people who have systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE)

When the lupus autoantibodies,  (that attack the cells of the body),  affect the parts of the kidneys, it  leads to lupus nephritis

Swelling and Inflammation

The kidneys may become swollen  and inflamed due to the attack by  the lupus autoantibodies

One of the common signs of lupus nephritis may be the presence of blood in the urine and foaming of urine

Protein and Hypertension

Too much protein is the reason for foaming of urine. The affected individual may also have high blood pressure

Swelling of the hands, feet and face  may be seen in some people who are affected with lupus nephritis
