Cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal has finally broken his silence regarding his much-discussed divorce from choreographer and influencer Dhanashree Verma.
In a recent podcast with Raj Shamani, the leg-spinner candidly reflected on the emotional and personal challenges that led to their separation, clarifying that the decision was not impulsive but rather the result of a long, gradual process.
Chahal revealed that he and Dhanashree had chosen to keep their situation private while they navigated the complexities of their marriage. Despite experiencing ongoing issues, they maintained a united front on social media, presenting what appeared to be a normal relationship.
The reason, Chahal said, was that they hadn’t arrived at a conclusive decision and didn’t want to subject their personal life to public speculation until things were final.
When asked whether maintaining that public image was an attempt to salvage the relationship, Chahal admitted that was indeed the case. He shared that a part of him held onto the hope that the relationship might survive despite the mounting differences.
Touching upon the core of their issues, Chahal described marriage as fundamentally rooted in compromise. However, the lack of quality time spent together due to their demanding careers significantly strained their bond. He acknowledged that while mutual compromise is key, sometimes clashing personalities and lifestyle differences can erode even the best of intentions.
He went on to explain that their respective professional commitments — his intense cricket calendar and Dhanashree’s bustling career — often left little room for personal connection. The absence of time and space to nurture the relationship, he said, eventually led to widening emotional gaps.
Speaking more vulnerably, Chahal admitted that the emotional burden of unresolved conflict, along with the stress of maintaining appearances, took a toll on him. The constant tension, he added, made it increasingly difficult to remain emotionally invested, ultimately leading to the decision to part ways.
