“We’ve never done anything wrong”, says Raj Kundra on Rs 60 crore cheating case involving him and wife Shilpa Shetty

Businessman and film producer Raj Kundra has broken his silence on the Rs 60-crore cheating case that names both him and his wife, actor Shilpa Shetty. While promoting his Punjabi film Mehar in Delhi, Kundra was asked about the allegations and gave a firm response, insisting on their innocence.

In an interaction with India Today, Kundra acknowledged that controversies have often surrounded his public life, but said he and Shilpa have deliberately chosen to remain quiet until the matter unfolds in court. “Let’s just wait and watch because that’s life for you, and we have not said anything about it because we know we haven’t done anything wrong. The truth will come out eventually. We've never done anything wrong in life, and we never will,” he stated.

Kundra refrained from getting into the details of the case but underlined his confidence that the allegations will not hold. He stressed that neither he nor his wife have ever engaged in wrongdoing.

The controversy stems from accusations made by Mumbai-based businessman Deepak Kothari, who has alleged that the couple siphoned off nearly Rs 60 crore from Best Deal TV, a home-shopping channel where they reportedly held 87.6 percent of the shares. According to Kothari, the pair initially approached him for a Rs 75 crore loan at 12 percent interest. They later advised him to route the money as an investment to minimize taxation, with promises of regular returns and repayment of the principal amount.

Based on these assurances, Kothari says he transferred Rs 31.95 crore in April 2015 and another Rs 28.53 crore in September 2015. However, the funds were allegedly diverted for personal use. In September 2016, Shilpa Shetty resigned as director of the firm, and by the following year, insolvency proceedings were initiated against the company after defaults.

Recently, the Mumbai Police issued a lookout circular (LOC) against both Shetty and Kundra in connection with the case. An FIR has been registered under sections 403, 406, and 34 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS).

This is not the first time the couple has faced legal scrutiny in 2025. Earlier this year, Prithviraj Kothari, managing director of Riddhi Siddhi Bullions, accused them of defrauding an investor in a gold scheme.

Despite the mounting allegations, Kundra’s stance remains firm. By reiterating that “the truth will come out eventually,” he has sought to project calm and resilience while letting the legal process play out. For now, both he and Shilpa Shetty remain under the scanner, but Kundra appears determined to maintain that they have “never done anything wrong in life.”
