Bollywood actress Vidya Balan often captivates fans with her powerful roles. The actress, who was last seen in Kartik Aaryan's starrer horror comedy Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, often picks women-centric films.
However, the actress has recently revealed that the dynamic of the film has widely changed after the 2020 pandemic.
In a recent interview with Deadline, the actress shared that the production studios are facing financial strain following the COVID-19 pandemic, and are now opting for male-led films as a safer choice.
She also suggested that the audiences stop going to theatres, making it difficult for studios to invest in women-centric films.
Vidya said, “Post-pandemic, people in India have lost the habit of going to the theatres to watch films. The studios feel it would be safer to bet on the historically male-led films. In my opinion, this calls for a reinvention in the female-led film space.”
The actress also talked about portraying a strong character and said, “There was no question of strategising (to play strong characters) because one had never really seen women take centre stage in mainstream films. The few films that I enjoyed where women were leading the story were in art house cinema. The only film I can think of which was commercially viable and led by a woman was Chaalbaaz.”
However, the actress has also recently talked about the role she would like to play in Hollywood films or series. She admitted that she liked Netflix's limited series Adolescence and would have liked to star as a therapist.
