Triptii Dimri and Siddhant Chaturvedi's Dhadak 2 is a remake of Tamil film Pariyerum Perumal: Reports

Pariyerum Perumal was written and directed by Mari Selvaraj. The film starred Kathir and Anandhi in the lead roles. It focused on caste based discrimination in India. The story follows Pariyan who is a Dalit youth. Pariyan joins college with hopes of a better future. However he faces constant harassment from his upper caste classmates.

Pariyan falls in love with Jothi Mahalakshmi who is a girl from the upper caste. Their love becomes complicated due to caste violence. The film portrays love, justice and the fight against societal issues.

Pariyerum Perumal was both a commercial and critical success as it made ₹1,08,70,456 at the box office. The film was declared a "Hit" in Chennai and remains an important film in Tamil cinema.

As per reports Dhadak 2 keeps the core themes of the original film and adapts these themes to a new cultural context. The story centers on two college students. One comes from a reserved category background. The other is from a privileged city background.
