Upasana Kamineni Konidela, an entrepreneur, philanthropist, and wife of actor Ram Charan, has started a national discourse after telling young women at IIT Hyderabad that they should think about storing their eggs so they can plan the birth as per their convenience. The video she shared on X immediately went viral and received backlash online.
After the growing backlash over her video, Upasana posted a long response on X, saying she was glad her comments had sparked an important conversation. "I'm glad I started a healthy debate, and thank you for your polite replies," she wrote. She also said she would soon share more of her opinions on "the pleasures/pressures of privilege," which was a topic that many readers had brought up.
She told readers to read the facts in her message and said, "Don't forget to look at my pictures!" It includes really crucial information that will help you say the appropriate things. Sharing her own Story Upasana also gave an honest account of her own choices about marriage and having children. "I got married at 27 because I wanted to be with someone I loved. I made that choice on my own. I decided to freeze my eggs when I was 29 for health and personal reasons. "I had my first child when I was 36, and I'm now expecting twins when I'm 39," she wrote.
She further added, "For me, marriage and career are not competing priorities -- they are equally meaningful parts of a fulfilled life." This shows that work and family don't have to be at odds with each other. But I get to choose the schedule! That's not a privilege; it's my right!"
Upasana also praised her followers for being polite and invited employers to work together to get more women into the workforce.
Earlier, Upasana talked about women freezing eggs, while speaking to the students at IIT Hyderabad. "The best insurance for women is to preserve their eggs... After that, you may decide when to get married, when to have kids, and when to do all of these things on your own terms, when you have enough money," she stated.

Later, she said that when asked how many students wanted to get married soon, more males than women raised their hands. She called this change "Progressive India." But her idea got a lot of criticism.
People who didn't like her opinion on teh topic expressed that she made a complicated issue seem too simple. They pointed to biological limits even after freezing eggs, the emotional and physical toll of fertility treatments, the high costs of procedures like IVF and egg preservation, and the fact that many women still can't get these options.
