Director Payal Kapadia’s critically acclaimed film All We Imagine As Light continues its impressive journey in the international film circuit. Following its Golden Globes nominations, the film has now secured a spot on the longlist for the prestigious BAFTA Film Awards 2024 in three major categories - Best Director, Original Screenplay, and Best Film Not in the English Language.

In the Best Film Not in the English Language category, Kapadia’s film is up against notable contenders like Black Dog (Gou zhen), The Count of Monte Cristo, Emilia Pérez, The Girl With the Needle, Kneecap, and La Chimera.

For Best Director, Kapadia competes with heavyweights such as Sean Baker (Anora), Brady Corbet (The Brutalist), Edward Berger (Conclave), Denis Villeneuve (Dune: Part Two), and Alice Rohrwacher (La Chimera)

In the Original Screenplay category, All We Imagine As Light shares the spotlight with projects like Challengers, The Apprentice, Heretic, and A Real Pain.

The film revolves around the intertwined lives of two Malayali nurses, Prabha and Anu. Prabha grapples with a shocking gift from her estranged husband, while Anu faces societal constraints in her quest for intimacy with her lover. Featuring stellar performances by Kani Kusruti, Divya Prabha, Chhaya Kadam, and Hridhu Haroon, the film is an ode to the complexities of life in Mumbai.

Having already won the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival, All We Imagine As Light is gaining traction as one of India’s most celebrated films on the global stage.

The film is now available for streaming on an OTT platform in India starting January 3, 2025. As the BAFTA nominations draw closer, Payal Kapadia’s masterpiece continues to cement its place in international cinema.
