Thug Life OTT Release: Read to know where to watch Kamal Haasan starrer online

Noted actor Kamal Haasan reunited with ace director Mani Ratnam after a huge gap of 36 years with Thug Life. The movie, which was released on June 5, received a lukewarm response at the box office, is streaming on OTT now.

Thug Life received mixed reviews from the critics and the audience also didn't have any good views about it. Many felt that Thug Life lacked the original charm of Mani and Kamal that they had in Nayakan.

Now the latest update is that Thug Life has started streaming on the OTT platform. The film is now available on OTT giant Netflix in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi.

The makers are hoping that the movie will find a second lease of life on OTT after a dismal performance in theaters.

Earlier it was reported by Pinkvilla, the producers had opted to release the film on Netflix much earlier than originally committed - within just four weeks of its theatrical debut - violating the usual 8-week window that multiplexes in North India usually enforce.

The report further mentioned that Netflix renegotiated its digital acquisition terms following the film's underperformance. Initially valued at Rs 130 crore, Thug Life’s OTT rights were ultimately sold to Netflix for Rs 110 crore after the streaming platform sought a price reduction.

The agreement included an expedited streaming release, reportedly agreed upon by all parties involved.

Thug Life also ran into a controversy prior to its release following Kamal Haasan's statement that Kannada was born out of Tamil. The film wasn't released in Karnataka. Kamal Haasan, who is also the producer of the movie, moved Karnataka HC but it is was of no help.

The makers then moved SC and it asked the government to ensure Thug Life's release in Karnataka but by that time the distributors in Karnataka had refused sighting unavailability of screens in the state.

Thug Life also stars Abhirami, Joju George, Ashok Selvan, and TSR. It is produced by Raaj Kamal Films International, Madras Talkies, and Red Giant Movies, with music by none other than the iconic AR Rahman.
