Kartik Aaryan breaks silence on fallout with Karan Johar over 'Dostana 2'

Kartik Aaryan made headlines in 2021 when he was announced as the lead in 'Dostana 2,' produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions. However, a few months later, Dharma Productions issued a statement revealing that they would be recasting the film “due to professional circumstances.” Speculations about creative differences between Kartik and Karan Johar led to widespread media attention, and now, Kartik has finally addressed the situation.

While promoting his upcoming film 'Chandu Champion,' directed by Kabir Khan, Kartik Aaryan spoke to The Lallantop about the alleged rift with Karan Johar. Kartik acknowledged that the issue is quite old now but pointed out that often miscommunications can be blown out of proportion, especially when things are reported in the media.

He explained, “Main tab bhi silent tha, aaj bhi silent hoon un baaton pe. Main 100% kaam karta hu lekin jab bhi aise koi khabar aati hai ya koi controversy aa jati hai to main apne shell mein rehta huin, main shant rehta huin. Main un cheezon mein zyada ghusta nahi hu, na kuch prove karne se mujhe kuch milta hai.” (I was silent when the news came about, and I choose to stay silent even now. I am 100% focused on my work, and when controversies of such nature happen, I stay calm about them. I don’t get involved a lot in them, and I don’t have to prove anything to anyone by getting involved).

Kartik emphasised that often issues get sensationalised when they are written about, leading to unnecessary drama. He highlighted that he hasn’t discussed the fallout until now because he believes in staying focused on his work rather than getting entangled in controversies. This approach, according to him, helps maintain his peace of mind and allows him to concentrate on his career.

Addressing the chatter that followed his exit from 'Dostana 2', Kartik mentioned that he doesn't have a spokesperson or a family that can bring his positive side to the media. He noted that despite the controversy, he must be doing something right as directors and producers continue to cast him in their films.

Kartik Aaryan’s upcoming film, 'Chandu Champion,' has generated a lot of buzz. The film hits the theatres on June 14.
