Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar is a self-made man, and he has always talked about how he left his home at the age of 14 to learn martial arts as his father knew that he wasn’t good at studies.
In an interview with his friend and cricketer Shikhar Dhawan for his new show ‘Dhawan Karenge’, Akshay revealed that his wife Twinkle Khanna is very intelligent and that their daughter Nitara has taken on her.
Shikhar narrated an incident to Akshay that when they were travelling to Delhi with Nitara, he was asking her riddles and she knew answers to almost all, he said he was very surprised. Shikhar asked Akshay has she taken on you? To this Akshay said: “Nitara has taken on Twinkle. She is very intelligent. And when you talk of intelligence, my wife is intelligent. Main toh anpad aadmi hoon main zyada padha nahi hoon. Main gadha mazdoori kardan haan woh dimaag wali hai (I am a labourer, she is very intelligent).”
Akshay credited his wife for imbibing the right values in their kids – Aarav and Nitara.
Talking about the discipline that he has in life, he said it is all because of his late father who was a wrestler. Akshay said his father realised early in life that his son wasn’t good at studies, so he shifted his focus on sports.
Akshay also said that his father wasn’t strict and wanted the best for him.
“I still remember my daddy had 12-14 jokes, he would repeat the same and yet we enjoyed them daily. There was only laughter even when we didn't have enough money, when we lived in a one-bedroom apartment. We lived in Koliwada, and the rent was Rs 100 even then we have only goal to keep laughing. We all stayed together - my sister, mummy, daddy. We divided our work, and our aim was to keep laughing. No crying.
“I started martial arts at the age of 7-8. I got into sports because of my daddy. My daddy was a wrestler, he used to represent Punjab. He was in the army too. He would call me and then invite kids who are elder to me and place chocolate in front of us. Then we would be asked to fight. My father wasn't strict, he knew that his son is zero in studies. He knew very early and then he sent me to Bangkok. Sports came to my rescue even in my films,” he said.
Twinkle Khanna, a former Bollywood actor is now an entrepreneur. She has just finished her master’s from London. Akshay says he is always proud of his wife.
