Lokesh Kanagaraj pens heartfelt note ahead of Coolie release

As the countdown to Coolie’s grand theatrical release enters its final hours, director Lokesh Kanagaraj has penned a deeply heartfelt letter brimming with gratitude for the film’s journey and the people who brought it to life.

Describing the experience as both “surreal and spellbound,” Lokesh extended his thanks first to Superstar Rajinikanth, acknowledging him for granting “complete creative freedom” to realise his vision on such a monumental scale.

In his note, Lokesh also paid warm tributes to his distinguished ensemble, singling out “King Nagarjuna” Sir, “Real Star Upendra” Sir, Soubin Sir, Sathyaraj Sir, Shruti Haasan, and Aamir Khan, whose participation, he said, made the process “even more special.”

Turning to the behind-the-scenes heroes, Lokesh called his crew the “pillars of strength and dedication” who stood by him through nearly two years of production. “I will forever be grateful to each and every person who has contributed to this film in any way,” he affirmed. Special appreciation was reserved for Sun Pictures and producer Kalanithi Maran Sir, whose faith allowed him to shape Coolie entirely under his own creative compass. He further thanked Kannan Sir for his “unwavering support” and lauded the team’s unity throughout the demanding shoot.

The director also acknowledged the invaluable efforts of his core team — The Route, Jagadish Bro, Aishwarya, and Radheyan — for playing a pivotal role in bringing the star-studded cast on board for this ambitious production.

Addressing audiences directly, Lokesh expressed sincere gratitude for their enduring “love and support” over the years, assuring them that Coolie would be “all yours in a few hours.” In a heartfelt appeal, he urged cinema-goers to enjoy a “spectacular theatrical experience” while refraining from revealing spoilers, ensuring that every viewer could savour the story fresh on the big screen.

Significantly, Lokesh clarified that Coolie is a “standalone film” crafted specifically for his Thalaivar, Superstar Rajinikanth. The release coincides with an extraordinary milestone — 50 years of Rajinikanth’s illustrious cinematic journey — making the moment all the more momentous for fans.

The letter, shared just ahead of the film’s release, has resLokeonated widely online, with admirers praising Lokesh’s humility, warmth, and respect for both his collaborators and his audience. With excitement at fever pitch, Coolie’s arrival on 14 August is shaping up to be one of the defining events of the year in Indian cinema.
