Adele to make her acting debut with Tom Ford's directorial featuring Adolescence star Owen Cooper

Adele had hinted at her acting ambitions long before this project was announced.

Grammy-winning singer Adele is officially stepping into a new creative chapter — acting. As per the latest reports, she is set to make her acting debut alongside Adolescence actor Owen Cooper in Tom Ford’s upcoming film Cry to Heaven.

According to E! News, the film also stars Nicholas Hoult and Aaron Taylor-Johnson, making it one of the most anticipated ensembles of the year.

Cry to Heaven, which is based on Anne Rice's 1982 book of the same name, tells the tale of Tonio Treschi, the last surviving member of a Venetian noble family, and Guido Maffeo, a musician from a peasant family.

In order to maintain their soprano voices and become famous opera singers, both characters are castrated as young boys.

As the narrative progresses, Guido becomes Tonio's mentor after losing his singing talent. However, Tonio becomes bitter about his lot in life and swears to exact revenge on Carlo, his father, who castrated him when he was fifteen.

Adele had hinted at her acting ambitions long before this project was announced. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter in 2023, she said, "There is one movie I want to do, but the guy whose movie it would be, he’s not mentally ready to write the script for it. I’m not giving you no clues, though. But I bug him every now and then about it, but he’s just not there yet. But that’s the only role I ever want. Because I think I’d nail it. I think I’d do really, really, really good at it.”

The film marks Tom Ford’s return to directing after his acclaimed works A Single Man (2009) and Nocturnal Animals (2016). Known as one of fashion’s most influential designers, Ford has now turned his focus entirely to filmmaking. After selling his fashion house to Estée Lauder for $2.8 billion in 2022, he said that he wanted to spend the next 20 years of his life making films.
