In a sudden move, the UT police detained renowned Punjabi singer and Bollywood actor Hardy Sandhu just before his scheduled musical performance in Chandigarh at a fashion show held at the exhibition grounds in Sector 34.

Hardy Sandhu was escorted from the stage to the Sector 34 police station as authorities demanded a separate permission specifically for his performance at the event. Sources revealed that DSP (South Division) Jaswinder Singh, along with the SHO of Sector 34 police station and other officers, arrived at the venue while Sandhu was conducting a sound check before his scheduled performance, set to begin at 6:30 PM.

Reportedly displeased with the turn of events, the singer later left for Mumbai without going ahead with his performance.

During the incident, the DSP demanded that Hardy Sandhu and the event organizers produce specific permission for the singer’s performance. Following this, the DSP instructed the Sector 34 police to take Sandhu to the police station. The situation quickly escalated, reaching senior police officials. Eventually, after the organizers reportedly presented all the necessary permissions, Sandhu was released.

According to police sources, despite the organizers having obtained all required approvals, the confusion arose due to the DSP’s misinterpretation of the situation. Sources further indicated that the singer is now contemplating taking up the issue of his "illegal detention" with higher authorities.

The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation had granted permission to the event organizers to use the Sector 34 grounds from February 6 to 9, charging a rental fee of approximately Rs 1 lakh. However, in December last year, the Chandigarh administration had ruled that large-scale live concerts and similar gatherings would no longer be permitted at Sector 34 grounds. This decision was evident when permission for singer A.P. Dhillon's live concert was redirected to Sector 25, despite organizers initially requesting Sector 34 as the venue.

The Union Territory administration made the decision following demands from political parties and citizen groups, who opposed large-scale concerts and events at Sector 34 grounds. They argued that such gatherings caused inconvenience to residents, led to severe traffic congestion and parking issues, and adversely affected local businesses.
