Julian McMahon, the celebrated actor best known for his roles in Nip/Tuck and the Fantastic Four films, has passed away at the age of 56 following a private battle with cancer.
The news was confirmed by his wife, Kelly, on Friday (July 4, 2025), who shared a heartfelt statement with Deadline.
"With an open heart, I wish to share with the world that my beloved husband, Julian McMahon, died peacefully this week after a valiant effort to overcome cancer," she said. "Julian loved life. He loved his family. He loved his friends. He loved his work, and he loved his fans. His deepest wish was to bring joy into as many lives as possible."
She added, "We ask for support during this time to allow our family to grieve in privacy. And we wish for all of those to whom Julian brought joy, to continue to find joy in life. We are grateful for the memories."
Julian's varied and successful acting career began in 1992 with his cinematic debut in the Australian comedy Wet and Wild Summer! (internationally released as Exchange Lifeguards). Soon after, he moved into bigger parts and made appearances in films like Magenta and Chasing Sleep, progressively making a name for himself in Hollywood.
As Victor Von Doom/Dr. Doom in the Fantastic Four film series, he achieved worldwide renown and was praised by Marvel fans for his impactful performance. He also had a memorable role in the 2018 Australian comedy Swinging Safari, costarring with Kylie Minogue and Guy Pearce.
During the late 1980s and early 1990s, McMahon starred in popular Australian soap operas, including The Power, The Passion, and Home and Away. Later, as Detective John Grant on the NBC crime drama Profiler, he became well-known in the United States. One of his most cherished roles was that of the complicated and melancholy demon Cole Turner on the popular supernatural series Charmed.
But Nip/Tuck was the one who really solidified his legacy. He gave a compelling and frequently provocative performance as Dr. Christian Troy, which helped the FX medical drama become a critical and financial success.
Born into a prominent Australian family, Julian was the son of former Australian Prime Minister Sir William McMahon. Despite his political lineage, Julian carved his own path in the world of entertainment, becoming a global star known for his charisma, versatility, and commitment to his craft.
His final screen appearance came earlier this year in Netflix’s mystery series The Residence, where he portrayed Stephen Roos, the Prime Minister of Australia — a poignant nod to his real-life heritage.
Julian McMahon leaves behind a legacy of bold roles, captivating performances, and a genuine love for his audience. His absence will be deeply felt by fans around the world.
