Exclusive|Dhairya Karwa: Gyaarah Gyaarah is the role that gave me the right opportunity to showcase my ability

Tell us something about your role in Gyaarah Gyaarah.

Dhairya: So, no surprises. I play a cop. I played a cop in the nineties. My cop has a very interesting arc and a journey. His journey—I think my good fortune is that I almost get to play like two characters in one story. Because of my character arc and how he grows, he starts out as this young, naive cop who believes in justice and who thinks that, you know, I can do no wrong and, you know, I will just turn the tide. But life, you know, as we know, is not fair. Life really throws some curveballs at him. And, it's fascinating to see his journey of just seeing him transform, transform mentally, how he thinks earlier, how an inherent optimism really turns into pessimism and a bit of skepticism because he's real now. He's had a hard life and how events have happened to him.

And you see that life is hard on him and how he wears off physically as well. You see that the toll that's taken on him. So that was fascinating to play.

So it's different from all the cop dramas that are shown in our movies?

Dhairya: I would say the other side. It's complex because the first image that you think of when you think of a cop is this: a righteous person can do no wrong, just does the right things always. But what's fascinating is that every real-life hero, a cop, is a human after all behind that uniform.

And everybody is going through their own challenges. There's a turmoil and a storm inside his head and his heart. He navigates through life; there's the personal caution, the personal tangent relationships, and the challenges at his work. Also, Shaurya, my character, is sensitive and a hyperemotional person.

Do you think somewhere you haven't gotten your due till now?

Dhairya: There's nothing to be shy about; I wouldn't say due, but I would say the right opportunity to showcase my ability. I feel Gyaarah Gyaarah is that. I waited for a while for this show to release. I haven't said yes to whatever came my way because I believe in myself. I believe that when the right opportunity comes, I will hit the hammer on its head. And so, I would say again, due comes from some sense of entitlement. Like, you're not entitled to anything in life really. And if because, if I'd like to believe that, because that makes life easier for you. Because when you're in your head fighting this fight now, I deserve this; why am I not getting this? Then you're victimizing yourself.

So somebody who's come out who doesn't have, life going through so many challenges at you. So, your task is to really make it as easy and simple as possible. I like to follow this philosophy that, you know, we are not entitled to anything. Just keep working.

If you have done good, if God is kind enough, and you put in your honest hard work and if you can walk the talk, then, you know, opportunities will come. Things will culminate in something. You will get there somewhere. So, I feel, I didn't have that often because, when you look at my first few films, URI, 83, and Gehraiyaan, the real fight has been with the camera to stay on me and for me to be on screen at length. If only I could be on screen at length, can somebody judge my ability or showcase my ability? So, I think Gyaarah Gyaarah is that opportunity.

I know, especially, it because it comes in a long format. Yeah. So now there is no running away from, like, now you can have a judgment. Like, good or bad, but a judgment.

Earlier, it was that, you know, I haven't seen enough of them to really have an opinion on. Like, that's the real honest. But there I think that's how I look at it.

Your role in Gehraiyaan was noticed.

Dhairya: Noticed. Yes. Notice short but noticeable. Yes. And again, credit too, because how Shabnam really told that story and told that character. Noticeable, but again, I also would like to clear it. All of this comes from a deep-rooted leading man, a hero. So that's why when you say that, oh, no, you were noticeable here, but I'm looking at that hero part because they're the central part. So it comes from that space. When I say this.

How was it working with Raghav in Gyaarah Gyaarah?

Dhairya: We all 3 actors (Raghav, me, and Kritika) are so fortunate to have a story of such a compelling story come our way. And it was great working with Raghav. I think we've nurtured our relationship over the walkie-talkie in different timelines. We've never really shot in person together. We've always heard each other's voice and/or run our imagination that this is how Raghav is going to be or this is how he's going to speak to me. And we just really function out of our imagination most of the time.

But he's a great guy, really energetic whenever he's around, and, you know, just keeps it very lively and fun. So, he's a great guy and, of course, a brilliant artist as well.

Kritika, the addition to the duo.

Dhairya- Yeah. She's my junior. Kritika is also a really sweet and sensitive kind person and, of course, a great actor. Again, for with her, I had a good fortune of shooting together, sharing the screen space.

And there's so much to learn really at times. I have me; the actor in me would just zone out and, you know, just see the performer she is. And I'm on set because she comes with so much experience. She's so polished and refined that you see, at times, you're just astounded by her ease and how amazing she is at work. So, it was my good fortune of really, you know, getting to share some screen space with her.

She's brilliant.
