Disha Salian was raped and murdered, says father

The father of Disha Salian, former manager of late Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput, has moved the Bombay High Court, demanding a fresh investigation into his daughter’s death. He has also sought a First Information Report (FIR) against Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray. Disha Salian was found dead under mysterious circumstances on June 8, 2020, after allegedly falling from the 14th floor of a residential building in Malad, Mumbai.

Six days later, on June 14, 2020, Sushant Singh Rajput was also found dead in his Mumbai apartment, a case initially declared as suicide but later transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for further inquiry as reported by TOI.

Father’s Allegations and Legal Plea

Satish Salian, Disha’s father, has alleged in his plea that his daughter was “brutally raped and murdered” and that there was a “politically-orchestrated cover-up” to protect influential individuals. His petition urges the Bombay High Court to transfer the case to the CBI, citing a lack of proper investigation by the Mumbai police.

“The Mumbai police hastily closed the death as a case of suicide or accidental death without taking into account forensic evidence, circumstantial proof, and eyewitness testimonies,” states the plea. Satish Salian’s lawyer, Nilesh Ojha, confirmed that they had filed the petition at the HC registry department on Thursday and were awaiting its numbering.

The case has sparked a political controversy, with opposition leaders demanding accountability. BJP minister Nitesh Rane has been vocal about the issue, stating, “Aaditya Thackeray should speak the truth. He should resign as an MLA and face the probe.”

Shiv Sena (UBT) spokesperson and former Mumbai mayor Kishori Pednekar responded to these allegations, calling them part of a “conspiracy”. She questioned the timing of the case’s resurgence, saying, “Someone is behind it, and there is a conspiracy. How come this matter has come under the spotlight after more than four years?” She further pointed out that the CID had already conducted an inquiry, and an SIT (Special Investigation Team) had been formed to probe the matter.

Disappearance of Key Evidence

One of the significant claims made in the petition is the disappearance of key evidence. Nitesh Rane alleged that CCTV footage from Disha Salian’s building had been erased, and visitor register pages from the society had been torn off. These missing pieces of evidence, according to the plea, indicate a deliberate attempt to hide the truth.

Government’s Response

Yogesh Kadam, Minister of State in the Home Department, stated that the Maharashtra government will follow the court’s directives on the matter. “We will follow whatever direction the High Court gives. There will be no party politics in the probe,” he assured.

The case has reignited debates on social media, with many users calling for a thorough investigation into both Disha Salian and Sushant Singh Rajput’s deaths. The hashtags #JusticeForDishaSalian and #CBIForDishaSalian have been trending, with users demanding transparency in the investigation.
