BTS members V (Kim Taehyung) and Jungkook have won a legal battle againt a YouTuber as the Seoul Western District Court has ruled in their favour, ordering the owner of the YouTube channel Taldeok Camp, Park Sojang, to pay a hefty compensation of 76 million KRW (approximately $53,000 USD). The ruling comes after Park was found guilty of spreading false accusations and defamatory content about the two global K-pop icons.
The court's decision dictates that Park Sojang must pay a total of 76 million KRW, which is to be distributed as follows:
- 51 million KRW ($35,000 USD) to BIGHIT Music, BTS' agency.
- 10 million KRW ($7,000 USD) to V (Kim Taehyung).
- 15 million KRW ($10,000 USD) to Jungkook.
This ruling marks Park’s third defeat in a defamation lawsuit, reinforcing legal measures against spreading misinformation and false rumours about public figures. Park has been previously involved in defamation cases targeting IVE’s Jang Wonyoung and singer Kang Daniel, making her a notorious figure in online controversies.
BIGHIT Music initially filed the defamation lawsuit, accusing Taldeok Camp of using unauthorised photos and videos to make baseless allegations about V and Jungkook. The content targeted their personal lives, physical appearances, and alleged relationships, creating widespread misinformation and hostility toward the artists. The lawsuit, which originally sought damages of 90 million KRW, had its first trial in August 2024.
As BTS members continue to fulfill their mandatory military service, fans eagerly await the return of their favourite idols. V is scheduled to complete his service on June 10, 2025, the same day as fellow member RM. Similarly, Jungkook and Jimin, who enlisted together, are expected to be discharged on June 11, 2025. Meanwhile, Suga is set to complete his service on June 21, 2025.
