Bollywood actor Zayed Khan broke down while performing the final rites of his mother, Zarine Khan, earlier today. His mother and former actress Zarine Khan passed away due to cardiac arrest at the age of 81.

The actor stood alongside close family members as friends from the film industry visited to offer condolences.

The quiet, personal farewell soon became the centre of online attention for reasons beyond grief.

And to many’s surprise Zarine Khan was cremated as per Hindu rituals, considering Zarine Khan’s well-known Parsi heritage.

Zarine Khan belonged to the Katrak family, an aristocratic Parsi lineage known for its deep ties to Mumbai’s cultural, business and philanthropic circles.

And she was married to Sanjay Khan, a Muslim.

Zayed was seen visibly overwhelmed and for him and his siblings, the day was about saying goodbye to their mother. The presence of close-knit friends, familiar faces from the industry, and the family walking together spoke more than any online speculation could.

Zarine’s former son-in-law and actor Hrithik Roshan was there in the hour of grief. He was seen with Sussanne and their son at the cremation ground.

Gauri Khan, Jaya Bachchan, Shweta Nanda, Poonam Dhillon rushed to Zarine Khan’s house in the morning to pay their condolences.
