Ranveer Singh’s much-awaited return to the big screen has taken a fierce shape with the unveiling of Dhurandhar’s trailer in Mumbai on Tuesday afternoon.
The action-heavy spy thriller, directed by Aditya Dhar, immediately sparked conversation for its hyperviolent tone, ambitious scale, and the actor’s intense new avatar.
The launch had been delayed by a week following the Delhi bomb blast and out of respect for veteran actor Dharmendra’s health, but the final reveal drew strong reactions from fans and industry watchers alike.
The trailer opens on a grim note, introducing Arjun Rampal as Major Iqbal, known within the story’s intelligence corridors as the Angel of Death.
His motive is unambiguous: to bleed India “with a thousand cuts.” The sequence, shot in a stark, shadow-heavy palette, sets the film’s violent mood early.
From there, the narrative shifts to India’s response, led by spymaster Sanyal, played by R Madhavan in a role visually inspired by National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. His assessment is blunt: to dismantle terror, India will have to infiltrate it.
The cast lineup is one of the trailer’s biggest talking points. Akshaye Khanna appears next as Rehman Dakait, a chain-smoking, sharp-edged operator who thrives in chaos.
Sunny Deol joins the ensemble as SP Chaudhary Aslam, adding weight to the team of men navigating the dark underbelly of cross-border terror networks. Their introductions are intercut with explosions, frantic gunfire, and flashes of high-impact violence, underscoring the film’s action-first approach.

Ranveer Singh’s entry shifts the tone. His character, introduced through a series of rapid-fire shots, positions him as India’s blunt countermeasure. The voiceover describes him as the force meant to neutralise those destabilising the country, and Singh’s performance in the trailer leans heavily on intensity and controlled rage.
Earlier in the day, the actor had shared a poster calling himself the “wrath of God,” a line that fans quickly picked up as a sign of the film’s heightened dramatic pitch.
Reactions to the trailer were immediate, with many praising the ensemble cast and expressing relief at Singh’s return to full-scale action. Several comments compared his look to his acclaimed performance as Alauddin Khilji, calling this a return to his most aggressive cinematic space.
Dhurandhar is produced by Aditya Dhar, Jyoti Deshpande, and Lokesh Dhar. Along with Singh, Rampal, Khanna, Deol, and Madhavan, the film also features Sanjay Dutt and Sara Arjun in key roles. The film is slated for a theatrical release on December 5.
