Bigg Boss OTT 3 winner Sana Makbul recently revealed her ongoing battle with an autoimmune liver disease, shedding light on a challenging health journey that began in 2020. In a candid conversation on Bharti Singh and Haarsh Limbachiyaa’s podcast, the actress disclosed her diagnosis of autoimmune hepatitis, a condition where the immune system mistakenly attacks liver cells.
Sana’s revelation resonated with fans and the entertainment industry, especially since she compared her struggle to that of actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu, who has been battling myositis—an autoimmune muscle condition. Speaking about her health, Sana stated, “A lot of people don’t know that I am an autoimmune hepatitis patient. I have a liver disease, it was diagnosed in 2020. It has no specific symptoms.”
The actress, who has been a beloved face in the television industry for years, admitted that dealing with this condition has been tough. The illness has significantly impacted her lifestyle, leading her to make major changes, including adopting a vegan diet. “I have turned vegan recently due to health reasons,” she shared. She also revealed that she has been on medication since 2020, relying on steroids and immunosuppressants to manage her condition.

The Battle Against Autoimmune Hepatitis
Sana explained that autoimmune diseases can manifest in different ways, attacking various organs of the body. She described her condition by stating, “In this, my body cells are attacking the organ, so in my case, it’s sometimes Lupus; it hits your kidneys or causes arthritis. Samantha Ruth Prabhu has myositis, which is a muscle condition. I have it with the liver.”
Her experience with fluctuating health has been a major challenge. She admitted that while she tries to stay strong, there are good and bad days. “My health keeps fluctuating, I don’t know if this can be cured completely,” she confessed. She further emphasized the unpredictable nature of her condition, adding, “I take steroids, suppressants, or some medicines. It’s a lifestyle disorder, but with the autoimmune condition, the liver condition is a tricky thing.”
Coping with Social Media and Mental Health
During the podcast, Sana also touched upon the mental and emotional toll of dealing with a chronic illness, particularly in the public eye. She acknowledged that social media plays a significant role in her life but sometimes affects her negatively. “Social media sometimes affects me, and I also suffer bad days,” she admitted.
Despite the struggles, the actress remains determined to lead a fulfilling life and continue working in the entertainment industry. Over the years, Sana has built a loyal fanbase due to her unfiltered personality and acting skills. She gained immense love after winning Bigg Boss OTT 3 and has previously participated in Khatron Ke Khiladi 11, showcasing her resilience and strength.
