Renowned for her role in the blockbuster film Baahubali actress Anushka Shetty recently revealed that she suffers from a rare condition known as the "laughing disease." This disclosure has sparked interest and concern among her fans and the general public. The condition, medically termed as pseudobulbar affect (PBA), is characterized by sudden and uncontrollable episodes of laughter or crying, often disconnected from actual emotional stimuli.

In an old video interview, Shetty candidly discussed her struggles with this condition. "I have a laughing disease," she said. "You might wonder, 'Is laughing a problem?' For me, it is. If I start laughing, I can't stop for 15 to 20 minutes. While watching or shooting comedy scenes, I literally roll on the floor laughing, and the shoot has been halted many times," Shetty explained, as reported by Indiatoday.

This condition not only disrupts her professional life but also poses challenges in her personal interactions. The episodes of laughter are not just momentary; they are prolonged and can be quite severe, lasting several minutes and sometimes up to 20 minutes. This uncontrollable laughter can be both physically and emotionally exhausting.

What is Pseudobulbar Affect?

Pseudobulbar affect is a neurological disorder characterized by involuntary and uncontrollable episodes of laughter or crying. Causes and Diagnosis

Several neurological disorders can lead to pseudobulbar affect. Conditions such as motor neuron disease (MND), amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), multiple sclerosis (MS), brain stroke, brain tumor, or traumatic brain injury can cause PBA.

Impact on Daily Life

Living with pseudobulbar affect can significantly impact an individual's quality of life. The unpredictability of the episodes can make social interactions difficult and can lead to avoidance of certain situations to prevent embarrassment. For someone in the public eye like Anushka Shetty, this condition can be particularly challenging.
