Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar is all set to return to the big screen with Kesari: Chapter 2, where he plays the powerful role of C Sankaran Nair — a lawyer who took a bold stand against the British Empire following the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre. The film, which sheds light on one of the lesser-known yet impactful contributors to India’s freedom struggle, has already begun creating a stir, not just in film circles but also in political spheres.

In a heartfelt gesture, Akshay Kumar recently thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for acknowledging the legacy of Chettur Sankaran Nair. Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Akshay expressed, “Thank you Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji for remembering the great Chettur Sankaran Nair ji and his contribution to our freedom struggle. It is so important that we as a nation, especially the younger generation, value the great women and men who fought valiantly to ensure that we breathe in a free country!”
He went on to say that Kesari Chapter 2 is a “humble effort to remind everyone that we must never take our freedom for granted.”

The film dives into the courtroom drama that followed the horrific Jallianwala Bagh incident, highlighting Nair’s bravery in legally challenging the British through his position and influence. The film not only aims to educate the youth about this overlooked chapter of Indian history but also celebrates the courage and intellect that Nair brought to India’s freedom fight.
Actor Rana Daggubati, who recently watched the film ahead of its Telugu release, also lauded the project. He shared, “Just watched an incredible historical courtroom drama — Kesari: Chapter 2: The Untold Story of Jallianwala Bagh. A powerful, important film that stands tall and resonates deeply with the Indian in you. This is storytelling that deserves to be seen across languages.” He praised the performances by the lead actors including Akshay Kumar, R Madhavan, and Ananya Panday.

Directed by a yet-to-be-announced filmmaker, the movie is slated to hit theatres on April 18, 2025. With a gripping narrative, a patriotic heart, and a star-studded cast, Kesari: Chapter 2 promises to be a stirring tribute to unsung heroes of India’s freedom movement.
