Hisar MP Brijendra Singh quit the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), citing compelling political reasons, and moved to the Congress camp on March 10.
In his parting note, Singh thanks BJP leaders like JP Nadda, Narendra Modi, and Amit Shah for giving the opportunity to serve as a member of Parliament. He was welcomed to the Congress squad by party seniors like Mallikarjun Kharge, Ajay Maken, Mukul Wasnik and Deepak Babaria.
Singh served as an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer for 21 years before taking voluntary retirement. He stood ninth in the Civil Services Examination in 1998. A native of Jind, Haryana, Singh did his masters in modern history from JNU. His father Birender Singh was a former union minister, while his grandfather Chhotu Ram is hailed as a Jat icon.
Contrary to accusations of nepotism, Singh asserted that he had charted his own path in politics. He won the 2019 Lok Sabha elections defeating the JJP and the Congress. He publicly supported wrestlers protesting against BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh over harassment allegations.
In 2022, there were rumors of Singh joining the Aam Aadmi Party, which he later denied. Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Priyanka Chaturvedi welcomed Singh's entry into the INDIA bloc, highlighting his background as a former bureaucrat and successful MP.
