Bilaspur, known as the law capital of the state, is the second-largest city in Chhattisgarh. It was a part of Madhya Pradesh from 1952 to 1999. Later the constituency became a part of Chhattisgarh. The Bilaspur Lok Sabha constituency includes eight Assembly seats, which include Kota, Takhatpur, Beltara, Lormi, Bilha, Masturi (SC), Mungeli (SC) and Bilaspur.
The BJP has dominated this region since 1989, winning this seat in eight out of the last nine elections (excluding 1991). BJPs Punnulal Mohle has won four consecutive times from Bilaspur.
In 2019, BJPs Arun Sao defeated Congress’s Atal Srivastava to win the seat. BSP’s Uttam Das received 21,180 votes. In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, BJP's Lakhan Lal Sahu emerged victorious, defeating his closest contender, Congress candidate Karuna Shukla. Sahu secured 561,387 votes, while Shukla garnered 384,951 votes.
The total voter turnout in the 2019 Lok Sabha election stood at 62.64%, indicating a significant level of civic engagement in the electoral process.
